Ladybugsfitness can offer Reflexology as a treatment for a variety of conditions and can be used safely throughout pregnancy and in the early days after having your baby. Reflexology can be used to treat morning sickness, inadequate milk supply and even fertility issues.
During 9 months of pregnancy your mind and body goes through huge changes, you experience mood changes, feelings of fear and excitement. Reflexology can help your body cope with these changes whilst helping to alleviate symptoms of common pregnancy ailments such as:
- Appetite regulation
- Blood pressure regulation (except in cases of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia)
- Constipation or any change in bowel patterns
- Gestational Diabetes (mostly to prevent it)
- Leg cramps
- Morning sickness
- Muscular fatigue and tension
- Nausea and vomitting
- Urinary tract problems (difficult to urinate, cystitis etc)
- Pelvic Girdle Pain
- To improve flexibility of pelvic floor
- To prevent episiotomy and perineal lacerations
Reflexology will help to nurture and support both Mum and baby throughout pregnancy, including the first few weeks. It cannot and will not cause a miscarriage to a viable pregnancy.
Reflexology is a fantastic tool by helping to regulate contractions, cleanse the body, calm reflux and nausea and promote better breathing. Having the soothing touch therapy during labour is a great comfort. In certain circumstances it may be possible to ‘prime’ labour, which is what Reflexologists call inducing labour.
Once the baby is born pregnancy hormones take a nose-dive and this sudden drop can have a major effect on the new mother’s emotions as well as all the other demands on the mother such as feeding, caring for the newborn and lack of sleep. Reflexology can help calm and ease a new Mummy and balance her hormones and energy levels. It can also help with:
- Inadequate lactation
- Engorged breasts
- Urine retention
Babies also benefit from reflexology; they have been on quite a journey! Reflexology can help calm and settle newborn babies and I am always happy to show parents a few tricks of the trade to use at home.
Trying unsuccessfully for a baby is a heart breaking time.
In 2008, the percentage of IVF treatments that resulted in a birth (the success rate) according to the NHS figures was
- 33.1% for women under 35
- 27.2% for women aged 35-37
- 19.3% for women aged 38-39
- 12.5% for women aged 40-42
- 4.9% for women aged 43-44
- 2.5% for women aged over 44
The advantage of a reflexology treatment is that fertility issues are not treated in isolation. The overall health of the whole person is addressed during the treatment, which allows for hormones to be balanced and stress levels tackled too.
